1400 Hour Hairstyling Program - Accredited, Diploma

On-going registration

This is a comprehensive course designed for all beginners who want to become hairstylists, and would prefer to practice in a school/classroom setting. Ideal for those wanting to specialize as a colorist, hair designer, up-do stylist and/or make-up artist.

Requirements: Grade 12 transcript and ability to speak, read, and understand English. Passion about hair and beauty and a positive learning attitude are musts!

This is a daytime course, with 3.5 days per week. Student loans and payment plans are available. Our program is accredited and recognized nationally and by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Training Industry.

Course content includes:

  • Basic practical theory, covering in-depth and advanced-level subject matter in hair and beauty

  • Intensive training in client services and people skills

  • Government licensing: preparing and practicing both theory and practical exams

  • Infection control and anatomy

  • Wet and dry hairstyling

  • Head massage, hot towel, hair treatment, hand massage

  • Advanced long hair styling

  • Basic and advanced facials and make-up, bridal make-up

  • Women’s hair-cutting using the Pivot Point system

  • TÓC-created geometric European hair-cutting design

  • Barbering, men’s hair

    • Taper, all types of fades, hot shave, hair design, five fundamental men’s haircuts, eyebrow waxing and trimming, facial/nose/ear waxing, mini-facial, hot towel, men’s hair color, men’s perm, soft (Korean) perm

  • Haircoloring, from the basis to advanced, practical application

    • Goldwell Colorance, Matrix, Joico Intensity, Schwarzkopf, Wella…

  • Advanced hair color; special effects, colour correction, formulating

  • Basic and advanced texture services, perm designing

  • Hair relaxing: straightening hair / keratin hair straightening treatment

  • Multi-cultural hairstyling and cutting

  • Braiding: cornrows, box braids

  • Extensions: tape-in, weave in, micro fusion, keratin fusion extension, wigs

  • Facial wax, manicure, pedicure (with guest instructor)

  • In-house competitions and hair show training

  • Communication skills (with guest speaker)

  • Business skills:

    • Networking, retaining clients, upselling, social media marketing

    • Resume building and advising

    • Salon opening (with previous students, now salon owners)

    • Job placement upon course completion

  • Learn retailing with popular products such as Goldwell, Wella, Nioxin, CHI, Olaplex, Schwarzkopf, etc.

Barber Focus Program -
Recognized, Diploma

On-going registration

The first recognized and accredited barber program in Alberta.

Requirements: An in-person interview and consultation, and a high school diploma or entrance test. The ability to understand and speak English is an asset.

Course content includes:

  • Comprehensive barber license preparation

  • 5 fundamental men’s haircuts, designs, and styles

  • Basic and advanced taper cuts, layered haircuts, all kinds of fades

  • Working with different types of hair; theory and practical (hands-on) learning

  • Beard design; outlining, coloring, trimming, shaping, styling

    • Hot-shaves, straight-razor work

  • Men’s styling, braiding, cornrows

  • Men’s perm, basic color, highlights, special effects (for knowledge only)

  • Modern curriculum & practicum

  • Tools, product knowledge, handling, infection control and safety

  • Retail and salon business basics, building a business, business licensing

  • Assistance for all licensing exams

This is an 18 week program (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9:00am-6:30pm, Wednesday: half day).

4 Month Fasttrack Hairstyling Program -
Recognized, Diploma

On-going registration

This is a fast-paced pre-employment course designed for those with both previous or little experience in hair.

Requirements: Grade 12 transcript and ability to speak, read, and understand English. Passion about hair + beauty and a positive learning attitude are assets!

Course content includes:

  • Theory and practical application of infection control

  • Hairstyling

  • Basic and advanced haircutting (men and women)

  • Basic and advanced hair color

  • Perms and chemical relaxing/straightening

  • Wig-styling and extensions

  • Basic make-up, skin care, manicuring, waxing

  • Networking, salon business management

  • Client-focused service

  • Government license exam preparation, classroom practice and support

  • 150 hours of hands-on experience on clients

Barbering - Express Course

This is an beginner’s course designed to teach you the basics of barbering. If you have an interest in men’s hair, or you’d like to pick up a few fun skills, this is for you!

Requirements: An interest in men’s cuts and an enthusiastic attitude!

Government License Qualification
Exam Prep for Barbers and Hairstylists

Requirements: 5-10 years of salon or barbershop experience.

  • Designed for existing unlicensed hairstylists and barbers who want to challenge the qualification exam

    We follow the Government’s license exam closely to ensure all changes and regulations are up-to-date.

Advanced + Refresher Course -
4 to 10 sessions

This is an advanced course designed to upgrade your skills, whether you’re looking to specialize in cuts or as a colorist. It is required to have your own models for this course.

Styling Hair: Up-Dos and Long Hair Styling

3 sessions (beginner), 8 sessions (advanced level)

It is required to have your own models for this course.

  • Focuses on long hair; from how to create celebrity styles to techniques for all special occasions

  • For experienced hair stylists, this course will strengthen your up-do skills, increase your service revenue and offer additional services to your existing client base
